The Nain Foundation, soon to be a non-profit organization, was founded by Suzan Syron and her family: Guri Singh, Mackenzie Singh and Kelley Syron.
The Foundation provides stipends to children in Jundla, India, a rural village, so that girls and boys can remain in school instead of working to support their family.
Monies are given to children who demonstrate potential for higher learning.
The Nain Foundation provides for tuition, books, and the family's basic needs. |
It is our mission to give children the opportunity to learn and progress in an academic environment without the burden of having to provide for their families through servitude, or working in the fields. |
The foundation will also provide sports equipment, uniforms, and facilities for games such as cricket, badminton and basketball. The Nain Foundation will work with the headmistress and the school's physical trainer to organize intra and interscholastic competition. Sports will offer students another avenue that will promote self esteem, motivation, and inner drive for all students.
As in the United States, some children excel in sports more than academics; some children are equally talented cognitively as well as in athletics. Sports is often the great equalizer for those children who are shy, of a lower socio-economic status, or who may not excel academically. Additionally, everyone needs exercise! Unlike private-pay schools, the government run school in Jundla does not offer interscholastic sports. With the right equipment, new uniforms, and practice during free time, students will have the opportunity to eventually play competitively. Perhaps this will be a reason, to some students, to remain in school and continue their studies. And just maybe, the school will be given the opportunity to play against some more prestigious schools and win! |
